Spring Fling Kidlit Contest

Spring is FINALLY here! And with it comes the Spring Fling Kidlit Contest hosted by Ciara O’Neal and Kaitlyn Leann Sanchez.

This is my first year participating in the contest. I actually wasn’t going to participate but one of my CP’s asked me to critique her entry and it inspired me to write my own.

After living and teaching in Ireland, SPRING means rainbows, leprechauns and St. Patrick’s Day. My time in Ireland was magical and that’s what inspired my entry for the contest.

This story is dedicated to my dear friend Eddie, who taught me all about the history of Ireland and it’s many wonders.

Happy reading!

Hidden Treasures

By Jessica Haster

Emma plopped down on the tree stump, her arms crossed.

“This place is boring. Where are all the kids? I’m never going to like it here.”

A tiny man poked his head out from behind a bush.

“Psssst, lass! Is he gone?”

“Is who gone?” she asked.

“The leprechaun hunter.”

“What’s a leprechaun?”

He giggled. “A leprechaun is magic, aye, with an orange beard and a funny little hat.”

Emma pointed, “You have an orange beard and a funny--”

“No need to make fun, you cheeky lass. I need to hide and you’re sitting on me house!”

Emma hopped up and glanced down. “This is your house?”

No answer.

Emma looked around but the tiny man was gone

Had she imagined him?

But there, in the center of the tree stump, rested a shiny gold coin.

A smile spread slowly across Emma’s face. “This place might be fun after all.”
